X-WR-CALDESC:Vic Baker\, Professor of Planetary and Geosciences\, U. of Ari
zona\, and long-time Friend of the Erratics\, will discuss 'Ice-Age Flood
Controversies: Past and Present.' Catastrophic flooding has invoked contro
versy ever since the beginning of geological sciences. Disputes concerning
the mega-flood origins of eastern Washington’s Channeled Scabland began a
century ago with research by J Harlen Bretz (1882-1981) and Joseph Thomas
Pardee (1871-1960). Debate has continued over the 50 years that Dr. Baker
has been studying the area. This talk will provide an update on recent di
scoveries\, with some reflections on both the past and future science of c
 atastrophic floods
