X-WR-CALDESC:Jon Riedel\, a geologist with the National Park Service at Nor
th Cascades National Park\, will chat with us about why we value glaciers\
, how they are changing\, how we monitor them\, and what changes mean for
water supplies. Dr. Riedel established glacier monitoring programs at Olym
pic (2013)\, Mount Rainier (2003) and North Cascades (1993) national parks
to track changes in more than 500 glaciers\, so he has a lot to share!\n
\nHow to Watch: Click the link above at the time of the event. The event w
ill be streamed via Facebook Live. You do not need to have a Facebook acco

peaker Bio:\nJon Riedel is a geologist with the U.S. National Park Service
at North Cascades National Park\, and earned a M.S. degree from the Unive
rsity of Wisconsin and a Ph.D. from Simon Fraser University. The focus of
his research during the past 30 years is the response of Washington’s glac
iers to climate change\, from the last ice age 30\,000 years ago to the mo
dern warming climate. Dr. Riedel established glacier monitoring programs a
t Olympic (2013)\, Mount Rainier (2003) and North Cascades (1993) national
parks to track changes in more than 500 glaciers. Recent publications hav
e quantified changes in volume and runoff from glaciers in several regiona
l watersheds. Jon is also a founding member and president of the Skagit Cl
imate Science Consortium\, a nonprofit organization of 13 scientists focus
ed on studying the impacts of climate change in Puget Sound’s largest wate
rshed and making this information available to local decision makers.
