The new facility was built by re-purposing the decom missioned Winton saw mill near Coles Corner about 15 minutes north of Leav enworth. The project took about 3 years to become operational from concep t to completion\, which included permitting\, construction\, and testing. Winton Mfg Compost Works is permitting to receive\, annually\, up to 62\, 000 tons of yard debris\, wood waste\, food waste\, and other organic wast e streams. These materials will be turned into high quality compost for m ultiple area markets.\n\nWaste Loop staff will share plans for the roll ou t of a new community composting program in partnership with Winton that wi ll utilize the newly opened composting site. These plans include compostin g pilot programs in several local restaurants\, community drop off sites\, and composting education and implementation in our schools.
