X-WR-CALDESC:Join us in person or virtually for the last Red Barn Event of
this season!\n\nIn December of 2021 the Greater Leavenworth Museum added a
stunning Story Basket exhibit to their new space on Front Street. These b
askets were designed and woven by Julie Edwards\, a member of the Colville
Tribe and a descendant of the p’squosa (Wenatchi)\, Nez Perce and Yakama
tribes. Traditionally\, the baskets were made of native plants such as bea
r grass and Indian hemp and used for collecting and storing roots. They ha
ve been around since the people have been around\, 14\,000 and 24\,000 yea
rs. Julie makes modern versions out of yarn and polished hemp.\n \nJoin Ju
lie\, WRI\, and the Greater Leavenworth Museum in the Red Barn for a night
of getting to know the artist and storyteller. Julie will share her journ
ey learning how to weave from her mentor\, Joe Feddersen. We will hear som
e stories about her grandmother who played a large role in Julie’s life.
\n \nAt the event we will have Julie’s book\, 'Weaving: Baskets and Storie
s'\, for sale. The book highlights the baskets on display in the museum\,
as well as the stories that go alongside each. All the proceeds from the s
ale are going directly to a fund to expand and update the p’squosa (Wenatc
hi) exhibit in the museum\, thanks to Julie. \n\nThis is a FREE event with
a donation basket at door.\nDoors open at 6:30pm for a community social w
