 Wenatchee River Institute and A Book for All Seasons will host Graville at
  a reading and discussion Tuesday\, September 13th at 7 pm. She’ll be join
 ed by a few Leavenworth residents to dramatize some of the essays.\n\nDraf
 ted when Graville served as the first Writer-in-Residence for Washington S
 tate Ferries\, the essay collection explores threats to Southern Resident 
 killer whales\, highlights the voices of climate activists and marine scie
 ntists\, and relates the joys (and challenges) of ferry transport among th
 e San Juan Islands. Graville tackles complex interconnections and conflict
 s with a storyteller’s hand\, following the advice of poet Kim Stafford to
 \, “Figure out playful ways to write hard news that bring hope\, that end 
 in a song.”\n\nDescribed as “nature writing at its best” by Washington Sta
 te Book Award finalist Ana Maria Spagna\, Writer in a Life Vest leads read
 ers to ask questions and find hope. If you’re angry\, fearful\, or despond
 ent about the climate crisis\, these heartfelt ruminations will buoy you t
 o act on the planet’s behalf. This is Graville’s fourth nonfiction book\, 
 including the memoir\, Hiking Naked\, about the two years she and her fami
 ly lived in Stehekin.\n\nThis is a FREE event with a donation basket at do
