r a Red Barn Event offered jointly by the Wenatchee Valley Chapter of the
Washington Native Plant Society and the Wenatchee River Institute.\n\nFour
geologic fluids have influenced the local availability of water\, the flu
id most associated with plant life. Flow of the Earth’s mantle over the la
st 40 million years\, humongous lava flows 16 million years ago\, flow of
glacial ice about 16\,000 years ago\, and air flow have all shaped the nor
th-central Washington landscape. The effects of these fluids govern how wa
ter moves in and through our landscape\, thereby shaping our plant communi
ties. \n\nRalph Haugerud has been studying the geology of the Pacific NW
for over 50 years. He is a Seattle native\, a graduate of WWU and UW\, a
nd a research geologist with the U.S. Geological Survey. He lives in Wenat
chee. \n\nThis is a FREE event with a donation basket at the door.\nDoors
open at 6:30pm for a community social with beer and wine available for pu
