Projectile point chronology and obsidian hydra tion dating suggest the Rock Island Overlook site was first occupied 13 to 16 thousand years ago at the end of the last Ice Age (Pleistocene). The a ssemblage also contains evidence of hunting now extinct Pleistocene horses . Horse blood residue was identified on a Windust type projectile point. T his result also supports the age estimate for the site as Pleistocene hors e extinction occurred about 12\,700 years ago.
