Thank you to all who took part in Sunset & S'mores! |
Last Wednesday was our Sunset & S'more party here at WRI. With over 100 people in attendance, it was an absolute hit! The smoke even cleared to show us a beautiful sunset and a starry evening. It was a joy to finally get together again with our supporters (for the first time since 2019)!
We want to take a moment to thank some special folks! WRI's Events Committee put this event together and made it what it was. These volunteers worked many hours to bring this event to you, so please help us thank Claudia Cockerham, Ann Colley, Carol Cade, Lisi Ott, and Vânia Winters. We also want to thank our two beverage sponsors, Hard Row to Hoe Vineyards and Icicle Brewing Company. Lastly, thank YOU, our community, for all of your support and sticking with us through it all.

In the last two weeks, we've done several Field Days with local schools and also started our After School Program in Wenatchee School District for the school year. Read some highlights below: |
|
|
WRI visits 3 Wenatchee elementary schools throughout the school year to deliver an After School Program. Students get to play games, go on nature walks, design and engineer activities, and more! WRI did a total of 41 After School Program visits in the 2021-2022 school year. WRI is excited to have started this program up again for the 2022-2023 school year! |
| 4th Grade: Vale Watershed Naturalists |
Five 4th grade classrooms from Vale Elementary in Cashmere joined us for Field Days. Each class got to visit WRI for a full day. Students learned about erosion and what a watershed is by looking at the watershed model of Leavenworth. They also searched for aquatic macroinvertebrates in the river and salmon while on a riparian hike. Some students also got to look at animal skins and skulls! |
|
|
4th Grade: Alpine Lakes Watershed Naturalists |
Four 4th grade classrooms from Alpine Lakes Elementary have been continuing their Field Days here at WRI. One class has finished their 4-week rotation! They finished it off by going on a riparian hike to look for salmon in the river. Then they did nature art with Andy Goldsworthy. The other classes learned more about water quality and searched for aquatic macroinvertebrates in the river! |
| 2nd Grade: Erosion Control |
WRI joined a second grade classroom from Columbia Elementary at the Saddle Rock Natural Area for a field experience. They looked at soil and learned about different soil features and wrote their observations down in a journal. Then they went on a walk to look for signs of erosion and erosion control. They took what they learned from the walk to create a model of erosion control. |
