SAVE THE DATE: WRI's 2nd annual Trashion Show Friday, April 21st, 2023 |
It's time to start thinking about... trash and fashion! Last year, WRI hosted our first ever Trashion Show in honor of Earth Week. It was a fashion show featuring garments made from recycled materials and repurposed clothing. We had at least 150 people attend to watch 20 models walk down the runway in their unique trashion outfits. Want to participate? Start planning your outfit and collecting materials now to create your own trashion masterpiece! More details and team registration coming soon. |

In the last two weeks, we've held Field Days with local schools and began a trial run for our Traveling Planetarium program. Read some highlights below: |
|
|
Field Days with Local 5th Grade Students |
Four 5th grade classrooms from Alpine Lakes Elementary visited the WRI campus for a Field Day. They became lichenologists as they did a lichen investigation. They studied wolf lichen growing on ponderosa pine trees in different locations and learned why lichen grows on some of the trees more than others. They also collected samples of lichens and looked at them up close under the stereoscope. Overall, they learned that all things in an ecosystem are connected, even owls, squirrels, and lichen!

Traveling Planetarium is back! |
After a hiatus of over two years, our Traveling Planetarium is back in a trial run with the Wenatchee School District! The planetarium allows students to see the night sky during different times of the year, learn constellations, and get to know our sun, moon, and stars. WRI is visiting 7 different Wenatchee schools, and each 1st and 5th grade classroom gets a lesson inside the planetarium this school year. We are excited to have this program back again after so long! |

Last year, WRI's Board of Directors put together a plan to enforce festival parking in WRI's parking lot during peak Christmas Lighting times. These efforts from volunteers and board members allowed all proceeds to go to staff members as a generous bonus for all of their hard work. Planning ahead for the busy Christmas Lighting season, we'd love some support to help make this program possible once again. We'd like 2 volunteers each shift. Expected shifts include: - Weekend 1: Saturday, December 3rd and Sunday, December 4th from 10:30am-1:30pm
- Weekend 2: Saturday, December 10th and Sunday, December 11th from 10:30am-1:30pm
-
Weekend 3: Saturday, December 17th and Sunday, December 18th from 10:30am-1:30pm
Please email Randee if you are interested in this volunteer opportunity. More information will be sent to volunteers soon. |
