Wrapping up Camps

We had so much fun with our campers this summer! See some highlights from our final camp sessions of the season below. Keep an eye out for the full camp photo albums on Facebook later this week.

Amazing Artists

How can you use the natural world to inspire and create art? Campers entering grades 1-3 explored this question and made some amazing art in the process. Guest instructors Mary Big Bull-Lewis and Amanda Northwind stopped by to lead special art activities that many campers remember as the highlight of their week.

Leavenworth Adventure

Campers entering grades 4-6 enjoyed a variety of activities and embarked on a new adventure every day. Camp adventures included a day of hiking, indoor rock climbing at Riverfront Rock Gym, hiking and exploring at Wenatchee Lake State Park, and paddle boarding on the Wenatchee River!

Forest Friends

For our final camp session, campers entering grades 1-3 explored the forest. They learned how to communicate and trust each other through games, adventures, and new experiences in the great outdoors. Campers explored the WRI campus and beyond to Lake Wenatchee. They made lots of cool crafts, such as cyanotype prints, botanical pressed plant prints, suncatchers, and had a special art lesson from guest instructor, Amanda Northwind.

Thank You Summer Camp Interns!

Even though they were only here for a few weeks, our Summer Camp Educator Interns, Sophia and Olivia, left quite an impact on our staff and our campers. They helped keep our campers safe, smiling, and engaged during a variety of outdoor activities. They each also contributed a hand-drawn coloring page for future campers to use. What a treat! Thank you, Sophia and Olivia, for spending the summer with us and we wish you luck in your future endeavors!

Land Steward's Observations

Hey, it's me Tiffa the Land Steward!

Since I spend a majority of my time outside in the WRI natural areas, I get to meet some pretty interesting friends while I'm stewarding their home. A very handsome lady I met in the past couple weeks was this interesting dragonfly species known as the Common Whitetail. You've probably noticed the large dragonfly with see-through wings with a black spot on them. The males of this species have an all-white butt, and a single large dark stripe on each of their clear wings. The next time you see a dragonfly hovering around or resting on a leaf, see if it's a Common Whitetail!
