Peshastin-Dryden Elementary

The hills were alive with the sound of learning as WRI Educators worked with young naturalists from Peshastin-Dryden Elementary (PDE).

78 first grade Nature Detectives explored nature by becoming alien investigators from the planet Zog. They learned about plants, soil, and other things in nature at the WRI Campus.

WRI Educators also visited students at PDE for Power Hours with 2nd and T-K students. Four classrooms of 2nd graders were Habitat Detectives as they played "Park Ranger" and looked for trees on their campus for suitable animal habitat. T-K students took a bird-focused approach to the Sensory Scramblers program by making bird nests and costumes.

Joyful Scholars Montessori Planetarium

In some of their first experiences with WRI programming, all 73 students from Joyful Scholars Montessori School explored the stars and our solar system in the Traveling Planetarium. Depending on their grade level, these young astronomers learned about planets, moon phases, eclipses, constellations, and more.

Icicle River Middle School Life Skills Class

Four students from Icicle River Middle School's Life Skills class visited WRI for the Habitat Detectives program. They learned about our avian neighbors, went on a scavenger hunt for wooden birds, and built habitats for wild animals (beanie babies). What a great opportunity for WRI to connect with Icicle River Middle School!

Thank You, Nic!

Please join all of us at WRI in thanking Nic Pottier for his years of service on the Board of Directors! Nic served for 3 years from May of 2022 to May of 2025. He contributed his financial skills to WRI by stepping up as the Board Treasurer and serving on the Finance Committee. Fun fact - Nic initially came to WRI through Red Barn Events. We hope you keep finding interesting speakers to learn from in your upcoming adventures!

Land Steward's Observations

We have a Little Free Seed Library at WRI! It lives in the Community Garden in the little shed area. It's just like the regular Little Free Libraries that you see all over town, but instead of books, it's seeds! Take some seeds, leave some seeds, everything is free. There are tons of different veggies and fruits, flowers, herbs, and even a few native plants! They are organized by type. Blank seed envelopes are in the black mailbox next to the seed library. If you are interested in saving seeds to add to the library, there is a laminated page near it, and easy seed saving guides on the cork board.

We decorated the wooden boxes that the Forest Service donated with decoupage collage art from old calendars and seed catalogs and made little seed boxes from recycled cardboard; enjoy the whimsical array of wild creatures, mountains, and vegetables, and of course the seeds and plants you grow with them!
