Explorer Camp with After School Program Students
|
The last two weeks were the Explorer Summer Camps! These students (grades 2-5) are involved in our After School Program from 5 different Wenatchee schools! Students came for a 3-4 day camp learning something new at different locations each day.
They visited WRI, Ski Hill, the Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery, and the Horan Natural Area. At each location, they hiked around the trails and learned about the biodiversity of plants and animals there. At Ski Hill, students did a service project with Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance by helping with trail maintenance. At the Hatchery, they got to learn archery and learn about what salmon are doing this time of year.

Thank you to James Munly from the Central Chapter Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance and Marjie Lodwick, Julia Pinnix, Kaesee Bourne, and Alexis White from the Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery for making these activities possible!

WRI got a makeover... FireWise style!
|
This month, a lot of FireWise work was completed at WRI, with many thanks to Cascadia Conservation District, Chelan County Fire District #3, and Team Rubicon. A group of 20+ volunteers, plus workers from a local contractor, helped with removing and limbing trees and taking out brush to reduce fire risk. This work also helps improve the health of the trees that remain on the WRI campus. Come check out some of the improvements!
