2026 Summer Camp Highlights

It has been a busy summer! Read some of the highlights from recent Summer Camps. Check out Summer Camp photos on Facebook. Can you find your kiddo?

Kids in the Wild WRI Summer Camp with 1st-3rd graders at Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery learning archery.

Kids in the Wild Camp

Entering 1st-3rd grades

Smoke across Central Washington didn't stop the Kids in the Wild Camp from having an unforgettable week! Campers kicked off the week indoors learning Leave No Trace principles, crafting bug creations and binoculars, firing indoor inflatable archery, and practicing group skits. The smoke finally cleared on Thursday for outdoor archery at the Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery and boat building. We capped off the week with a clear-sky Pirate Day, complete with a treasure hunt, hat designing, and celebratory river time at ELY Beach!

Adventurous Artists

Entering 4th-6th grades

This summer’s Adventurous Artists campers enjoyed a vibrant, art-filled week exploring a wide range of mediums. Creative hands were busy all week long as campers painted watercolors, built mixed-media collages, painted custom clay sculptures, and carved their own rubber stamps to print unique creations!

Pathfinders Outdoor Camp

Entering 3rd-6th grades

Poor air quality forced a few pivots and mid-week cancellations, but campers made the most of their week! After kicking off Monday at Lake Wenatchee YMCA Camp with visor decorating, wood cookie painting, and indoor games, camp moved to the Downtown Wenatchee YMCA on Thursday and Friday. Campers finished the week strong with teen center games, pool swimming, clay sculpting, inflatable archery, and s'mores!

Thank you Wenatchee Valley YMCA for the collaborative camp!

Forest Friends

Entering 1st-3rd grades

Campers enjoyed an unforgettable week packed with creative crafts, outdoor exploration, and fun field trips! The week started with team games, friendship bracelet crafting, and cooling off with river time at ELY Beach and Barn Beach. Campers got creative designing camouflaged butterflies for Jack and Fern to find across the lawn, cooled off at the Walla Walla Point Park splash pad, and took a mini field trip to the Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery. The highlight of the week was Bear Day, where campers crafted bear masks, played themed games, and tracked "bear signs"—including some suspiciously delicious Clif bar scat!

Progress on Campus Accessibility: New River Haus Pathway!

We are thrilled to announce that our new accessible pathway along the back of the River Haus is officially complete! Visitors can now enjoy smooth, accessible routes and scenic views of the Wenatchee River.

This project is part of a larger ongoing effort to make the WRI campus more welcoming and navigable for everyone. It builds on the winding pathway installed last fall that connects the main parking lot directly to the front entrance of the building.

A huge special thanks to Mike Bedard for providing heavy equipment, which made the earthmoving process significantly faster and more efficient.

Next time you’re on campus, come take a stroll along the new path and enjoy the river view!

Construction on the Red Barn and Outdoor Classroom Continues to Make Great Progress!

If you've walked our trail system recently, you've likely noticed a lot of action on campus. Construction crews are hard at work focusing their efforts on two major projects in result of the storm last December: the Outdoor Classroom and the Red Barn.

To keep this exciting progress moving smoothly and to ensure everyone stays safe, please keep the following in mind when visiting:

  • Give crews plenty of space: Please maintain a safe distance from active work areas and machinery.
  • Respect taped-off zones: Pay attention to all construction tape, signs, and designated closures along the trails and campus grounds.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation while we build and improve these spaces for our community!

Reminder: Community Programs are currently limited while the Red Barn undergoes construction. We can’t wait to resume Red Barn Events this October! Stay tuned and keep an eye on our calendar for updates.
