Red Barn Event: Glass Recycling to Infinity and Beyond

Tuesday, April 9th

If glass can be recycled infinitely, why have many communities (including our own) lost access to curbside glass collection? Join us in the Red Barn to learn more about the complexities of glass recycling and discuss exciting new initiatives around its reuse with Waste Loop and Washington-based start-up, ZEWA.

Join us for a weekend introduction to the language of wildlife tracking. Throughout the weekend, you’ll gain a basic understanding of how to identify and interpret the commonly left tracks and sign of the birds, mammals, and insects of our region.

We're baaaack! Gather your lawn chairs, blankets, and snacks because it's nearly time to watch this year's assortment of environmental ensembles strut down the Green Carpet (the River Haus lawn). No registration required, just show up to join in on the fun. Be sure to bring a chair or blanket. Beverages will be available for purchase.

Red Barn Event: Fish are Friends

Tuesday, April 23rd

7:00PM-8:00PM

Gather in the Red Barn to hear from the Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery's updates on campus projects including major work on the Icicle River. Hatchery Manager, Mathew Maxey, will provide an overview of the hatchery and its operations. He'll provide insights into a variety of projects, tribal fisheries improvements, and projections for the future.

Birds Up Close: Ornithology Weekend

Saturday, April 27th AND Sunday, April 28th

Learn about birds like never before with this 2 day, hands-on exploration with ornithologist Sszanne Tomassi. This class will focus on bird biology, evolutionary history, field techniques and more. Participants will even have an opportunity to set up mist nets to see live, wild birds up close! Register online below.

Plant Foraging Workshop: Horsetail

Introducing a new workshop series: Plant Foraging! Join us for these instructional evenings where instructors will teach about identification, harvesting, and medicinal uses of various native plants. This workshop, with Sarah Michels of Infuse Organics, will focus on Horsetail and it's medicinal potential.

22nd Annual Leavenworth Spring Bird Fest

May 16th-19th

Don't freak out, but Bird Fest is getting closer by the minute! We are so excited for another year of celebrating the return of Leavenworth's migratory birds. Birders of all levels are encouraged to explore one of our 40+ birding trips, workshops, and other activities. Don't forget to stop by Family Day and the Birders' BBQ on Saturday before we close out the day with a Keynote Address from Rebecca Heisman. Learn more and register below.

Peshastin-Dryden Kindergarten Nature Explorers

Kindergarten students from Peshastin-Dryden Elementary celebrated the coming of spring with a Field Day at WRI! Kindergarteners tried their hand at being Nature Explorers and spent a full day exploring WRI looking for bugs and signs of spring. They learned about seeds and connected with a tree using their senses.

As a membership perk, WRI members will receive 24-hour early access to registration for our Spring Fungi Field Trip happening on Saturday, May 4th. This workshop fills up very quickly! Members will be sent an email next Wednesday, April 10th around 5pm with a member's only link for registration. Any remaining spots will be available for general registration on Thursday, April 11th at 5pm.

We are Hiring Summer Interns!

We're hiring Summer Camp Educator Interns to join our team at WRI! Interns will work closely with experienced educators to plan and deliver engaging and fun camp activities to connect students to the natural world. This full-time seasonal position goes from mid-June to mid-August, with flexible start and end dates based on intern availability. Housing on the WRI campus is available.
