Four classrooms joined us on campus for hands-on mini-experiments exploring fire ecology and erosion control! Students built matchstick forest models to test how different factors impact the spread of wildfire. They also constructed miniature stream tables, putting their engineering skills to the test to prevent soil erosion from flowing water.

WRI After School Program

Grades K-3

Last week, our After School Program dove into the world of insects and gardens! We took our very first field trip of the season to Tierra Garden Organics, where Laura gave us a tour of the garden and about half of our group pitched in to prepare freshly harvested onions for the Community Cupboard. Back on campus, we explored the WRI Community Garden and dug up a GIANT carrot planted by ASP students last spring! It was sweet, tasty, and made the perfect post-activity snack after the kids crafted their own imaginary insects.

Community Garden Potluck!

Tuesday, October 13th

4:30PM-6:30PM

Come enjoy a potluck-style harvest feast at the E. Lorene Young Community Garden.

Bring a dish to share and connect with this year's community gardeners. Everyone is welcome. You don't need a garden plot to attend! We’ll have tables, compostable plates and silverware, and recipe notecards for listing ingredients and dietary info. Just bring yourself, a dish to share, and get ready for a wonderful autumn evening in our cozy mountain town.

Email Tiffa, WRI Land Steward, with any questions you may have about the event.
