How does WRI's property fit in with the rest of the natural spaces in Leavenworth? Our new map can help you figure that out. Thank you to Gibbs Graphics and the City of Leavenworth for help with this project!
Neat Nature Note from Right Here Lamprey Found! While playing in the water and digging in the sand down at Barn Beach a student came up with an exciting find! Wiggling in his hand was a juvenile Pacific Lamprey, one of the coolest fish in our rivers. These fish have jawless, sucker-like mouths allowing them to become parasitic on other fish. Like salmon, Lamprey are anadromous, starting their lives in rivers, becoming an adult in the ocean, then returning to the rivers to lay eggs. Lamprey adult below.
