Camp Continues!

River Wild

When it's hot out, we're excited to be taking campers on the river! 2 sessions of campers learned some essential river navigation and safety skills before taking to the Wenatchee River in tubes and paddleboards. They then went to Lake Wenatchee to play team building games and go swimming (with lifejackets) in the lake. Way to keep cool!

Soil to Snack

Where does our food come from? Campers got to find out at Soil to Snack Camp. Campers got their hands dirty at the E. Lorene Young Community Garden while making their own snacks. As a bonus, they got a special lesson from emeritus Land Steward, Sean Eriksen. Finishing up with games and a bug hunt, everybody learned more about how food is grown.

Orondo After School Summer Program

K-4th graders from Orondo After School Summer Program spent a week at WRI. They honed their naturalist skills by hiking WRI's trails, playing games, and using pocket microscopes to look at at our local flora and any signs of wildlife. As a special lesson, Cultural Educator, Julie Edwards led them in a basket making class. They also spent a day taking a tour of the Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery and learned about salmon.

Bike and Explore Camp

Entering our third year of partnership, WRI teamed up with Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance for Bike and Explore camp. Campers spent their mornings learning new mountain bike skills to take to the trails. Our bike racks at WRI were overfull when campers came to campus for games and exploration in the afternoon. They went on a hike to Barn Beach and made crafts.

Community Garden

What's up at the Community Garden?

Have you visited the E. Lorene Young Garden lately? The gardeners have been hard at work growing fruits, veggies, herbs, and flowers all summer. Everyone is welcome to stop by and enjoy the grounds. Be sure to check out the little free library while you're there. Please be respectful of the gardeners' hard work and do not disturb their boxes while enjoying the grounds. You can find the ELY Garden on the corner of Commercial St and 12th St.

Happy visiting!
