Summer Camps have Begun! Last week was the first week of WRI Summer Camps! Two camps were held: Soil to Snack and River Wild. ![]() ![]() Soil to Snack Students entering grades 1-3 planted seeds and watched them grow, foraged service berries and stinging nettle, made pesto with the stinging nettle, made seed art frames, and visited:
After seeing and learning about gardens and farms, they ended the week thinking about their dream gardens and what they would plant in them.
Special thanks to Upper Valley Mend, Community Harvest, and Snowgrass Farm! ![]() ![]() River Wild Students entering grades 4-6 had a lot of fun on the river last week! Three of the four camp days were spent on the river. Two of the days were spent paddle boarding and one day tubing. Students practiced and developed their skills and then put their new skills to use by doing relays, balancing challenges, and scavenger hunts on the river! Students learned about local landmarks along the river and seen a lot of wildlife like deer, raccoons, and lots of different birds. ![]() ![]()

![]() Good News... and Bad News The good news is that we are getting more visitors coming to enjoy the WRI Campus and grounds! The bad news is that with more use, comes more problems. Recently, a hand-painted, life-sized wooden bird that we use as a teaching tool was stolen. Wooden birds help us teach students how to use binoculars – it’s so much easier when the bird isn’t moving! Not only are we sorry to have lost our woodpecker, we have taken all of our wooden birds down from the trees. Please let us know if you know the whereabouts of our woodpecker.
