David St. George
David and Beth St. George were essential to incorporating community science to the festival's early years. We are honored to present this award in David's memory. He was a "wise and gentle steward of the environment." He and Beth met at an ornithology class at The Evergreen State College and they married in 1986. They often worked together in the field as were passionate about birding, conservation, and each other. A walk in the woods with David was a wondrous experience: he often identified tens of birds by their songs before his companions had seen or heard a single bird.
