Red Barn Event: Sailing Around Vancouver Island
Join Mike Cecka in the Red Barn for an evening photographic recap of his sailing adventure!
On June 6, 2019, Wenatchee Valley locals, Mike Cecka and Greg Enlow, departed Oak Harbor marina on a much anticipated cruise around Vancouver Island, aboard Mike's 26 foot long trailer-able MacGregor sailboat. Their route took them counterclockwise around the nearly 300 mile long island. They passed through the San Juan and Canadian Gulf Islands, up the Strait of Georgia, through Desolation Sound and the nearby tidal rapids, up Johnstone Strait, through the Broughton Islands, across the top of Vancouver Island and past its northwest tip at the much respected Cape Scott. From there, they went down the wild and exposed west coast of Vancouver Island, exploring all the major fjords along the way, returning to Oak Harbor Marina on August 1, 2019. They cruised for 46 days, covering a distance of 1,083 nautical miles.
Wildlife encountered: bald eagles, humpback whales, Pacific whitesided dolphins, sea otters, river otters, black bears
This is a FREE event with a donation basket at door.
Doors open at 6:30pm for a community social with beer and wine available for purchase. Mike's presentation will start at 7:00pm.
