Protecting Your Home and Property from Wildfire
This workshop is free! Please register here: https://bit.ly/3MO0WDL
Creating defensible space is the most important thing a resident can do to reduce the risk of wildfire on their property. Most structures are not lost to a flame front, but in fact over 90% of homes that burn in wildfires are lost to an ember falling somewhere on or near the house. In this hands-on workshop, wildfire professionals from Cascadia Conservation District, WA Department of Natural Resources, Chelan County Fire District 3 in Leavenworth, and Chumstick Wildfire Stewardship Coalition will show off the recently completed defensible space project at WRI. The project includes fuels reduction work and projects to harden structures from embers.
Participants will take a tour of the recently completed project then learn tips to complete some of these simple projects at home. Some project topics to be discussed include:
• Thinning and pruning trees
• Making the perfect burn pile
• Screening vents and decks
• Gravel/hard scaping the “immediate” zone around structures
• Tips for regular maintenance
Come early for a FREE BBQ dinner at 6pm. Make sure to register here to secure your space: https://bit.ly/3MO0WDL
