Ecosystem Explorers Field Day
Grades: 4-8
Seasons: Fall, Spring
Have you ever thought more about the ecosystem that you live within and that there could be even different microecosystems within a larger one? Explore both the living systems and non-living systems around Wenatchee River Institute by investigating it through a scavenger hunt and also conducting mini-investigations around the area. Learn more about the Wenatchee River by testing the quality of the river and learning more how water cycles through our planet and in this area.
NGSS Standards:
- MS-ESS2-4 Develop a model to describe the cycling of water through the Earth’s systems driven by energy from the sun and the force of gravity.
- MS- ESS2-5 Collect data to provide evidence for how the motions and complex interactions of air masses results in changes in weather conditions.
- MS-ESS2-6 Develop and use a model to describe how unequal heating and rotation of the Earth cause patterns of atmospheric and oceanic circulation that determine regional climates.
- MS-ESS3-4 Construct an argument supported by evidence for how increases in human population and per-capita consumption of natural resources impact Earth’s systems.
Full-day Field Days run from three to five hours (9am-2pm), with a 30-minute lunch. Half-day Field Days are also available which run 2.5 hours or under.
