Winter Prep Workday: Mulching for Native Plants
Join us for a hands-on community workday as we prepare our Native Plant Garden for winter!
Newly planted native species face tough competition from winter-growing grasses that thrive under the snow and stunt spring growth. By applying a heavy layer of mulch, we can smother these invasive grasses, conserve soil moisture, and give our native plants the protection they need to flourish next spring.
What to bring: Work gloves, sturdy outdoor shoes, and a refillable water bottle. (Garden tools and shovels will be provided, but feel free to bring your favorite shovel or wheelbarrow if you have one!)
Who can join: Everyone is welcome—no prior gardening experience needed. Drop in for an hour or stay for the whole time!
Feel free to park at Wenatchee River Institute (for free). You will meet Tiffa Theden, WRI's Land Steward, at the Outdoor Classroom at 10am, and walk to the planting site together.
Don't forget to sign the Volunteer Waiver (link below) before the work party begins!
