Kirk will share stories and pictures from his recent trip tracking animals with the San Bushmen in the Kalahari Desert. He will mix these stories with his daily searches for animal signs in Leavenworth and his own journey into learning about wildlife tracking.

About the Presenter:

Kirk, who loves science and nature, has always enjoyed watching wildlife. But three years ago, after taking a tracking class at WRI, he started learning more about tracking animals. Last September, during another tracking workshop in Vantage, he found out about a chance to go to Namibia with a small group to meet the best trackers in the world, the San Bushmen. A month and a half later, he was sleeping in a half-finished grass hut in the Kalahari Desert, listening to elephants and hyenas at night. During the day, he followed San hunters as they tracked animals like kudu, oryx, and other antelope, and saw tracks of leopards and cheetahs. In the winter, Kirk helps Conservation Northwest with their wildlife tracking project near Snoqualmie Pass.
