Snowshoe Adventures
Grades: 4-6
Seasons: winter (snow dependent)
Students will snowshoe the wintry trails around the campus while looking for signs of wildlife and uncover adaptations plants and animals use to survive the cold. Along the way, students play games to develop their snowshoeing skills and explore the key design features that help snowshoes function. Students will also put their science skills to the test by being snow hydrologists and using scientific tools to see how much water is in the current snow pack. They will discuss the importance of knowing how much water is in snow for the rest of the year.
Next Generation Science Standards:
- 4-LS-1 Construct an argument that plants and animals have internal and external structures that function to support survival, growth, behavior and reproduction.
