HYBRID EVENT! Come in person or join virtually with zoom link below

Join us in person or virtually for the last Red Barn Event of this season!

In December of 2021 the Greater Leavenworth Museum added a stunning Story Basket exhibit to their new space on Front Street. These baskets were designed and woven by Julie Edwards, a member of the Colville Tribe and a descendant of the p’squosa (Wenatchi), Nez Perce and Yakama tribes. Traditionally, the baskets were made of native plants such as bear grass and Indian hemp and used for collecting and storing roots. They have been around since the people have been around, 14,000 and 24,000 years. Julie makes modern versions out of yarn and polished hemp.

Join Julie, WRI, and the Greater Leavenworth Museum in the Red Barn for a night of getting to know the artist and storyteller. Julie will share her journey learning how to weave from her mentor, Joe Feddersen. We will hear some stories about her grandmother who played a large role in Julie’s life.

At the event we will have Julie’s book, 'Weaving: Baskets and Stories', for sale. The book highlights the baskets on display in the museum, as well as the stories that go alongside each. All the proceeds from the sale are going directly to a fund to expand and update the p’squosa (Wenatchi) exhibit in the museum, thanks to Julie.

This is a FREE event with a donation basket at door.
Doors open at 6:30pm for a community social with beer and wine available for purchase. The presentation will start at 7:00pm.

Address: 347 Division Street, Leavenworth, WA 98826
